Thank you to all of our British fans out there —Breaking Bad wins BAFTA International Series Award! (even though it has never aired there in its entirety on traditional television!)
2014 ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards
I am very humbled and honored to have been nominated by my peers as ASCAP’s “Best TV Composer of 2013” alongside 4 super talented composers. There is also a separate category for “Best Film Score.” This is the first time that ASCAP has offered these awards. If you are an ASCAP member, I strongly encourage you to vote… we have needed an award like this for our community for a very long time to equal the awards voted on by the guilds of our compatriots at the DGA (directors), SAG (actors), ACE (editors) etc. You must be an ASCAP writer member to vote, but if you are, I hope you will take few seconds to vote for your favorite and support the process!

Dave Porter takes over scoring duties on NBC’s ‘The Blacklist’
As some of you have deduced already, almost 2 months ago I started scoring NBC’s very successful new drama “The Blacklist.” It’s been a crazy fun ride with a fantastic crew, and it returns tonight at 10pm with a special insanely action-packed episode. If that’s not enough to tempt you, here is a photo our post producer took yesterday from the mix stage featuring James Spader with a very large gun.

Thomas Dolby Lighthouse Tour
On stage last night with Thomas Dolby and Michael Giacchino. Michael and I were fortunate to be his guests for the LA performance of Thomas’ “Lighthouse” tour, and he invited us up during one segment of it to talk about the creative process and the state of technology and our business. Had a ton of fun –
Breaking Bad: Original Score from the Television Series Volume 2
Thanks to all of you, and thanks to Madison Gate Records, I was able to release a second volume of my score from Breaking Bad! I really appreciate your input, and tried to include as many of the suggestions you made as I possibly could. There are many favorites from season 5, along with a few gems that I included from earlier in the series. Twenty additional cues, at just 50 cents a pop… I hope that you will support my music and our show and purchase it legally. It is available NOW on iTunes! Coming soon… a version will be available as a physical CD that you can order from Amazon (just like Vol. 1). I’ll update the details on that as soon as I get more info… finally, if you enjoy it, I hope that you will leave a nice review on the iTunes site. Thanks again for all of your kind words and support. Dave

Honored to have my work on “Breaking Bad” mentioned again in Rolling Stone. The first time was in July 2012 with the article here. This time I walked through the 8 most difficult scenes to score throughout the entire history of the show.
